ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik Oankaar Sat Naam Kartaa Purakh Nirbhau Nirvair Akaal Moorat Ajoonee Saibhan Gur Prasaad.

There is One — the single reality behind everything. Its identity is Truth. It is the Creator, present in what it creates; without fear and without enmity; beyond time; never born; self-existent. It is realised through the Guru's grace.

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥

Aad sach jugaad sach. Hai bhee sach Naanak hosee bhee sach.

True before the beginning, true through every age; true now — and, says Nanak, true for ever.

ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ ॥ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

Kiv sachiaaraa hoeeai kiv koorrai tuttai paal. Hukam rajaaee chalanaa Naanak likhiaa naal.

How can we become truthful, and how can the wall of falsehood between us and the Divine be broken? By walking in harmony with the Will (Hukam) of the Divine — the order written into our very being.

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥

Hukmai andar sabh ko baahar hukam na koe. Naanak hukmai je bujhai ta haumai kahai na koe.

Everyone lives within the Divine order; no one stands outside it. Whoever truly understands that order stops speaking the language of ego.

ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥

Guraa ik dehi bujhaaee. Sabhnaa jeeaa kaa ik daataa so mai visar na jaaee.

O Guru, give me this one understanding: there is one Giver of all living beings — may I never forget that One.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

Jin seviaa tin paaiaa maan.

Those who serve are the ones who are truly honoured.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

Gurmukh naadan gurmukh vedan gurmukh rahiaa samaaee.

Through the Guru comes the sacred sound; through the Guru comes true knowledge; through the Guru one realises the Divine present everywhere.

ਆਪੇ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਆਵਹੁ ਜਾਹੁ ॥੨੦॥

Aape beej aape hee khaahu. Naanak hukamee aavahu jaahu.

You yourself sow, and you yourself eat what grows. Within the Divine order, we come and we go.

ਆਈ ਪੰਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਮਾਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤੁ ॥

Aaee panthee sagal jamaatee man jeetai jag jeet.

Let seeing all humanity as your own fellowship be your highest order. Conquer your own mind, and you conquer the world.

ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

Pavan guroo paanee pitaa maataa dharat mahat.

Air is the teacher, water the father, and the great earth the mother of all.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

Jinee naam dhiaaiaa gae masakat ghaal. Naanak te mukh ujale ketee chhuttee naal.

Those who contemplated the Naam, and gave their effort to it, depart with their work complete. Their faces shine — and many others are freed along with them.

ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥

Kaahe re man chitaveh udam jaa aahar har jeeo pariaa.

O mind, why are you consumed with anxious scheming, when the Divine is already taking care of you?

ਜੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

Jai ghar keerat aakheeai karate kaa hoe beechaaro.

In the home where the Creator's praises are sung and the Creator is contemplated —

ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Vich duneeaa sev kamaaeeai. Taa daragah baisan paaeeai.

Practise selfless service here, in the midst of the world — that is how one finds a place of honour in the Divine court.

ਸਚਹੁ ਓਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਉਪਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

Sachahu orai sabh ko upar sach aachaar.

Truth is higher than everything — but higher still is truthful living.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥ ਜਿਥੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥

Satsangat kaisee jaaneeai. Jithai eko naam vakhaaneeai.

How is the true congregation (Sangat) recognised? It is where the One Name alone is spoken of.

ਸਭੇ ਸਾਝੀਵਾਲ ਸਦਾਇਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

Sabhe saajheevaal sadaain toon kisai na diseh baaharaa jeeo.

All are called partners in Your blessings; You are not seen as an outsider to anyone.

ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਿਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਤਿਹ ਲੋਇ ॥

Gur daataa gur hivai ghar gur deepak tih loe.

The Guru is the Giver; the Guru is a home of cooling calm; the Guru is the lamp that lights all the worlds.

ਹਕੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਉਸੁ ਸੂਅਰ ਉਸੁ ਗਾਇ ॥

Hak paraaiaa naanakaa us sooar us gaae.

To take what rightfully belongs to another is as forbidden as the most forbidden food is to a Muslim or a Hindu.

ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੁਇ ਦਰਿ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਮਨੁਖ ॥

Sukh dukh due dar kaparre pahireh jaae manukh.

Joy and sorrow are two garments given at the Divine door; human beings come and wear them.

ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਅਖਾਏ ਸੁ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥

Gur satigur kaa jo sikh akhaae su bhalake uth har naam dhiaavai.

One who calls themself a Sikh of the True Guru rises early and meditates on the Divine Name.

ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥

Vidiaa veechaaree taan praupakaaree.

When learning is truly reflected upon, it becomes a means of doing good for others.

ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ॥੨॥੪੨॥੯੩॥

Teraa keeaa meethaa laagai. Har naam padaarath naanak maangai.

Whatever You do feels sweet to me. Nanak asks only for the treasure of the Divine Name.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੀਆ ਭੇਜਿ ॥ ਚਿਰੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ॥

Satigur saachai deeaa bhej. Chir jeevan upajiaa sanjog.

The True Guru has sent this child. A long-lived one has been born, by Divine design.

ਪਾਪਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

Paapaa baajhahu hovai naahee muiaa saath na jaaee.

Wealth hoarded is not gathered without wrongdoing — and it does not go with anyone when they die.

ਦਦੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਊ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਆਪਣਿਆ ॥

Dadai dos na deoo kisai dos karanmaa aapaniaa.

Do not blame anyone else; the fault lies in one's own actions.

ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥

Man toon jot saroop hai aapanaa mool pachhaan.

O my mind, you are an embodiment of the Divine Light — recognise your own origin.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਉਹਾੜੀ ਸਦ ਵਾਰ ॥ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਸ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥

Balihaaree gur aapane diuhaarree sad vaar. Jin maanas te devate keee karat na laagee vaar.

I would give myself to my Guru a hundred times a day — the Guru who, without delay, turns ordinary people into godly beings.

ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀਰਘ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਦਾਰੂ ਭੀ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

Haumai deeragh rog hai daaroo bhee is maahi.

Ego is a chronic disease — yet its cure also lies within it.

ਸਚੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਰੂ ਪਾਪ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥

Sach sabhnaa hoe daaroo paap kadhai dhoe.

Truth is the medicine for everyone; it washes away wrongdoing.

ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾਮਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Dukh daaroo sukh rog bhaiaa jaa sukh taam na hoee.

Suffering can become the medicine, and comfort the disease — for when there is only comfort, the Divine is forgotten.

ਮਿਠਤੁ ਨੀਵੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਗੁਣ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਤਤੁ ॥

Mithat neevee naanakaa gun changiaaeeaa tat.

Sweetness and humility are the essence of all virtues and goodness.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾਨ ॥

So kiu mandaa aakheeai jit janmeh raajaan.

Why call her lesser, from whom even kings are born?

ਨਾਨਕ ਫਿਕੈ ਬੋਲਿਐ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਫਿਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

Naanak fikai boliai tan man fikaa hoe.

Speaking harshly and insipidly makes one's whole body and mind harsh and insipid.

ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਈ ਵਾਰੀਐ ॥

Jo aaiaa so chalasee sabh koee aaee vaareeai.

Whoever has come will depart; everyone's turn comes.

ਆਪਣ ਹਥੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰੀਐ ॥੨੦॥

Aapan hathee aapanaa aape hee kaaj savaareeai.

With your own hands, set your own life's work right.

ਪੂਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸੀਸ ॥ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਉ ਤੁਮੑ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਭਜਹੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Pootaa maataa kee aasees. Nimakh na bisarau tumh kau har har sadaa bhajahu jagadees.

My child, this is your mother's blessing: may you never forget the Divine, even for a moment — may you always remember the Lord of the world.

ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਮੰਦਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਇ ॥

Maran na mandaa lokaa aakheeai je mar jaanai aisaa koe.

O people, do not call death bad — if only one knew how truly to die.

ਏਕੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਹਾਈ ॥

Ek pitaa ekas ke ham baarik too meraa gur haaee.

There is one Father, and we are all children of that One. You are my Guru.

ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭਲੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥

Nindaa bhalee kisai kee naahee manamukh mugadh karann.

Slandering anyone is never good; only the self-willed and foolish do it.

ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿਲੜੀ ਲਾਵ ਪਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

Har pahilarree laav paravirtee karam drirraaiaa bal raam jeeo.

In the first round of the wedding, the Divine instructs you to take up the duties of family life.

ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਬਹਨਿ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

Dhan pir ehi na aakheeani behan ikathe hoe. Ek jot due moortee dhan pir kaheeai soe.

They are not called husband and wife who merely sit together. Only those who are one light in two bodies are truly called husband and wife.

ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Anand bhaiaa meree maae satiguroo mai paaiaa.

O my mother, I am in bliss, for I have found the True Guru.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਗਾਲੈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਾ ਢਾਲੈ ॥

Kaam krodh kaaiaa kau gaalai. Jiu kanchan sohaagaa dhaalai.

Lust and anger dissolve the body, just as borax melts gold.

ਲੰਗਰੁ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਖਟੀਐ ॥

Langar chalai gur sabad har tott na aavee khatteeai.

The Langar runs by the Guru's Word, and its store of earnings never runs short.

ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

Baanee guroo guroo hai baanee vich baanee amrit saare.

The Bani is the Guru, and the Guru is the Bani; within the Bani are all life-giving treasures.

ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ॥

Gur duaarai har keeratan suneeai.

Through the Guru's door, the Divine praises are heard.

ਸਾਬਤ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਿਰਾ ॥

Saabat soorat dasataar siraa.

Keep the form given to you whole and intact — and let that be the turban on your head.

ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਕਬੂਲਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਛਡਿ ਆਸ ॥

Pahilaa maran kabool jeevan kee chhad aas.

First, accept death; give up clinging to life — then come to the path.

ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥

Ghaal khaae kichh hathahu dee. Naanak raahu pachhaaneh se.

One who works for what they eat, and gives some of it away with their own hand — says Nanak, such a person recognises the true path.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੈਰੀ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥

Naa ko bairee nahee bigaanaa sagal sang ham kau ban aaee.

No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger; I get along with everyone.

ਅਵਲਿ ਅਲਹ ਨੂਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ॥ ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧॥

Aval alah noor upaaiaa kudarat ke sabh bande. Ek noor te sabh jag upajiaa kaun bhale ko mande.

First the Divine created Light; from that nature all people came. From one Light the whole world arose — so who is good, and who is bad?

ਕਬੀਰਾ ਜਹਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਹ ਧਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਤਹ ਪਾਪੁ ॥ ਜਹਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਤਹ ਕਾਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਖਿਮਾ ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥੧੫੫॥

Kabeeraa jahaa giaan tah dharam hai jahaa jhooth tah paap. Jahaa lobh tah kaal hai jahaa khimaa tah aap.

Where there is wisdom, there is righteousness; where there is falsehood, there is wrongdoing. Where there is greed, there is death; where there is forgiveness, there is the Divine itself.

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਬੁਰੇ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਸਾ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਹਢਾਇ ॥

Fareedaa bure daa bhalaa kar gusaa man na hadhaae.

Farid, do good even to the one who does you harm; do not let anger wear down your mind.

ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥

Jau tau prem khelan kaa chaau. Sir dhar talee galee meree aau.

If you long to walk the path of love, come to my lane with your head placed on the palm of your hand.

ਭੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਦੇਤ ਨਹਿ ਨਹਿ ਭੈ ਮਾਨਤ ਆਨ ॥

Bhai kaahoo kau det neh neh bhai maanat aan.

One who frightens no one, and is afraid of no one —

ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਜੋ ਅਨਹੋਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੫੧॥

Chintaa taa kee keejeeai jo anahonee hoe. Ihu maarag sansaar ko naanak thir nahee koe.

Worry only about what is not meant to happen. This is the way of the world, says Nanak — nothing here is permanent.

ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਿੰਨਿ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਈਓ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

Thaal vich tinn vasatoo paeeo sat santokh veechaaro.

On this platter three things have been placed: truth, contentment and contemplation.

ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸੁਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Sukhmanee sukh amrit prabh naam. Bhagat janaa kai man bisraam.

The Divine Name is the jewel of peace, a nectar of comfort; it rests in the minds of the devoted.

ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥

Simarau simar simar sukh paavau. Kal kales tan maahi mittaavau.

I remember, and keep remembering, and find peace; the strife and anguish within my body are erased.

ਤੂ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

Too thaakur tum peh ardaas. Jeeo pind sabh teree raas.

You are the Master; to You I offer my prayer. This body and soul are all Your gift.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਸਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਥੈ ॥

Jis kee basat tis aagai raakhai. Prabh kee aagiaa maanai maathai.

When one places a thing back before its Owner, and accepts the Divine command with a bowed head —

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੀ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

Sevaa karat hoe nihakaamee. Tis kau hot paraapat suaamee.

One who serves without desire for reward attains the Master.

ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਚਿਹਨ ਅਰੁ ਬਰਨ ਜਾਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਤਿ ਨਹਿਨ ਜਿਹ ॥

Chakr chihan ar baran jaat ar paat nahin jih.

The One who has no mark or sign, no colour, caste or lineage —

ਸ੍ਰਾਵਗ ਸੁੱਧ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਿਧਾਨ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਘਰ ਜੋਗ ਜਤੀ ਕੇ ॥

Sraavag sudh samooh sidhaan ke dekh phirio ghar jog jatee ke.

I have wandered and seen the dwellings of the pious ascetics, the accomplished adepts, the yogis and the celibates —

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੋਂ ਸੁਨ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਭੈ ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀਓ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥

Saach kahon sun leho sabhai jin prem keeo tin hee prabh paaio.

I speak the truth — all of you, listen: only those who love have found the Divine.

ਮਾਨਸ ਕੀ ਜਾਤ ਸਬੈ ਏਕੈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਬੋ ॥

Maanas kee jaat sabai ekai pahichaanabo.

Recognise the whole human race as one.

ਹਮਰੀ ਕਰੋ ਹਾਥ ਦੈ ਰੱਛਾ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਚਿੱਤ ਕੀ ਇੱਛਾ ॥

Hamaree karo haath dai rachhaa. Pooran hoe chit kee ichhaa.

Give me Your hand and protect me, so that the longing of my heart is fulfilled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ॥ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ॥

Naanak naam charhdee kalaa. Tere bhaane sarbat daa bhalaa.

Through the Name, O Nanak, may our spirits stay in rising optimism (Chardi Kala); by Your will, may there be good for all.

ਆਗਿਆ ਭਈ ਅਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਤਬੀ ਚਲਾਇਓ ਪੰਥ ॥ ਸਭ ਸਿਖਨ ਕੋ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ॥

Aagiaa bhaee akaal kee tabee chalaaio panth. Sabh sikhan ko hukam hai guroo maanio granth.

By the command of the Timeless One the Panth was established. All Sikhs are commanded to accept the Granth as the Guru.
